Short term “quick fixes” won’t see NHS through to 100 years, think tanks warn
According to the BMJ recently, The NHS may not survive another 25 years to reach its centenary unless the underlying, long term causes of its current crisis are resolved, three major think tanks have warned.
?The leaders of the Health Foundation, the Nuffield Trust, and the King’s Fund have called for a multi-year, cross government strategy to preserve the NHS for future generations, backed up by major investment in society as a whole, including education, jobs, housing, incomes, and food.
They sent a letter on 5th July, the NHS’s 75th anniversary – to the prime minister Rishi Sunak, the Labour leader Keir Starmer, and the Liberal Democrat leader Ed Davey, urging them to make the next general election a decisive moment to build consensus and break with past policies.
