1. Acne
Acne is commonly located on the face, neck, shoulders, chest and upper back
2. Cold sore
This condition causes a red, painful, fluid-filled blister that appears near the mouth and lips. It is caused by Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV)
3. Hives
This causes itchy, raised welts that occur after exposure to an allergen
4. Warts and verrucas
Warts and verrucas are caused by a virus called the human papillomavirus (HPV).
5. Eczema
Especially affecting the flexor surfaces (front of elbow and back of knee); on light skin, eczema can cause a red rash. This rash may appear brown, purple, or gray on darker skin
6. Psoriasis
This causes scaly, silvery, sharply defined skin plaques; commonly located on the scalp, lower back and extensor surfaces (back of elbows, front of knees)
7. Cellulitis
Cellulitis is a medical emergency. A person should go to A&E if they have any symptoms of cellulitis.
Cellulitis is caused by bacteria entering through a crack or cut in the skin; often requiring rapid medical attention
8. Basal cell carcinoma
It can cause dome-like, pink or red, shiny, and pearly areas that may have a sunk-in centre, like a crater; often occur on the face, especially near the eyes and nose
9. Squamous cell carcinoma
This condition often occurs in areas exposed to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, such as the face, ears, and back of the hands; characterised by a scaly, reddish patch of skin, which progresses to a raised bump that continues to grow
10. Melanoma
This is the most serious form of skin cancer, which is more common in people with light skin. It can appear anywhere on the body as a mole that has irregularly shaped edges, asymmetrical shapes, and multiple colours
11. Contact dermatitis
May resemble a burn; often found on hands and forearms
12. Seborrheic eczema
Yellow or white scaly patches that flake off
13. Nappy rash
Located on areas that have contact with a nappy; skin looks red and wet, and may be warm to the touch.
14. Fifth disease
Caused by parvovirus, it is a common and highly contagious childhood illness; sometimes called ‘slapped-cheek disease’
15. Fleabites
Usually located in clusters on lower legs and feet
16. Hand, foot, and mouth disease
Caused by viruses that are part of the enterovirus family
17. Impetigo
A bacterial infection typically due to either Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes
18. Ringworm
Ringworm is a fungus not a worm; itchy, circular scaly patches with raised borders
19. Rosacea
Chronic (long-term) skin disease that goes through cycles of fading and relapse; Donald Trump has rosacea
