Allergies and anaphylaxis

Anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction, often to a drug or food. It can be life-threatening.

If you have serious allergies you should be given an emergency management plan to treat allergies or anaphylaxis. This may involve giving yourself an adrenaline pen (e.g. EpiPen) or antihistamine tablets.

Make sure you carry your medication with you at all times – do not leave them at home or in your car. You never know when you’ll need them!

You should also familiarise yourself with the instructions; so that you’re well prepared to use them in an emergency.
