Can you get a prescription without seeing a doctor?

Yes. There are several ways. You do not need to see a GP to order a repeat prescription.

You can order them online, either via the NHS app or the GP surgery’s website. And you may be able to pick them up directly at the pharmacy you have nominated, if it offers that service.

But you can also ask for your medicines at your GP surgery, if you do not want to do this online.

Ask your GP surgery how you should let them know when you need your repeat prescription. They can send your request to a pharmacy.

3 other ways to get a prescription without a doctor

  • See a GP practice nurse who is allowed to prescribe (if there is one .. ask)
  • See a clinical pharmacist at your GPs (again, if there is one)
  • See a hospital specialist nurse who is allowed to prescribe (if you have one).
