One programmed activity (PA) is worth four hours of work for NHS consultants. A standard working week for consultants is 40 hours (and therefore 10 PAs). And 1 PA is financially worth about 10% of their salary (see below).
But the value of a PA changes dependent on when it is worked.

Consultants can work more or fewer than 10 PAs per week. Additional activities over 10 PAs are not pensionable and are contracted separately.
Consultants’ salaries are based on a pay scale with eight thresholds, each representing an increase in basic pay. The basic salary ranges from £93,666 to £126,28 .. yes, quite alot.
