For your baby to have access to GP care for non-urgent issues, you should register your baby with GP as soon as you are able. They may have already been informed, but it’s a good idea to check that they have the baby’s NHS number.
You can register your baby with the GP by telephoning the surgery and registering your child as a new patient. Your baby’s red book should contain all the information the GP team will need to register them.
If your baby needs to be seen before you have been able to register them, they are still able see the GP via an emergency appointment from any practice.
You also need to register the birth at the local register office.
