Wait to see a NHS consultant not registrar or junior doctor

Hospital outpatient clinics are often very busy, with large numbers of patients waiting to see a variety of doctors. It can seem chaotic, and it often is.

But sometimes it can be better to wait longer to see the consultant, rather than a registrar or junior doctor.

It’s your right to ask the nurses for this to happen. This could be an hour or more after the time of your appointment though, so bring a book!

Why? Consultants are more senior and experienced, and it is the consultant who is ultimately responsible for your health.

You are more likely to get a clear diagnosis and treatment plan, as well as continuity for next time.

Take a book, or magazine.
