1. Shortness of breath or breathing problems
If someone is short of breath, or experiencing persistent breathing problems, they should be taken to A&E.
2. Chest pain
Chest pain is another telltale sign of worsening COVID-19. This red flag should not be ignored.
3. Blueish colour on the lips (cyanosis)
Another red flag symptom is blueish colour on a patients lips.
4. Low oxygen levels
The oxygen level of a patient must be measured regularly if unwell. If the levels are too low, it is concerning and the patient should be taken to hospital for assessment. Always keep an oximeter at home.
4. Dizziness or reduced exercise capacity
If a person in the house is feeling dizzy, lightheaded, is walking slowly, is not able to walk for long or is sitting down a lot, this is also a concern.
5. Confusion
A feeling of disorientation and confusion is also a cause for concern and a trip to A&E is advised.
Other COVID-19 red flag symptoms
High fever (above 39 degrees Celcius, or 103 degrees Fahrenheit). Fever is a common symptom of COVID. However, if your temperature is persistently high you should visit the hospital.
Other worsening symptoms. COVID-19 has other general symptoms like cough, runny nose, fatigue or diarrhoea. If any one of these symptoms becomes significantly worse, it may warrant a visit to the hospital.
