Where should I go with an eye problem?

For minor eye problems, it’s often best to go to a high street optician or optometrist. Most of the time opticians are better at examining eyes than GPs and hospital doctors!

However, if you have a more serious, new eye problem such as severe pain or loss of vision, there could be a risk of permanent blindness. In this situation you should go to your nearest eye casualty immediately. The eye casualty unit is usually part of or near to A&E.

Larger hospitals have eye casualty services, so check for your nearest location before setting off.
