Nurses are set to walk out again for 48 hours, from 8pm on Sunday, April 30th to 8pm on Tuesday, May 2nd.
Union members rejected a pay deal on Friday (April 14th), sparking concerns that more strikes could be on the way. In the ballot, 61 per cent of eligible members voted, with 54 per cent rejecting the pay deal.
The leader of the nurses union, the Royal College of Nursing, has said that, should a further ballot in May be successful, “it will mean further strike action right up until Christmas”.
NHS nurses in A&E, intensive care, and cancer wards will strike for the first time. Especially if combined with a junior doctors’ strike, the risks to patients will be significant.
